Biography:

Willy Tjungurrayi was born near Lake Mackay, Northern Territory. He is the brother of well-known artist George Tjungurrayi. When Willy was a young man, he elected to stay and live in the bush when the family moved to Haasts Bluff in the late 50’s. In 1976 Willy moved to Papunya and commenced painting with the Papunya Tula Artists.
Willy paints the story ‘Hail Storm at Kaakuratintja’. This painting tells the story of a journey by the Tingari ancestors who traveled to Kaakuratintja. Kaakuratintja is the Pintupi name for Lake MacDonald. It is said that all of these ancestors were killed in a ferocious hail storm.
