Born: cira 1960

Biography:

Jean Nampajinpa was born north west of Alice Springs, and learned Fire, Kangaroo and Emu Dreamings from her father, who worked as a stockman at Mt. Allan. From her mother’s side she learned various Bush Tucker Dreamings, including Bush Onion. She has lived in Victoria since 1989 and has taken on the Dreamtime of this beautiful and unique landscape.
The Fire Dreaming is passed on by their fathers to young women and men of the Nampajinpa and Tjampitjinpa skin groups of the Warlukurlangu (Yuendumu) region. Fire farming, or the strategic use of burning to promote regrowth, fertility and the proliferation of animals, is important in the Aboriginal economy in arid areas of Australia, and many Dreaming stories involve fire.
