Biography:
Geraldine Stewart is from the Southern Arrente region, located approximately 250 km south of Alice Springs, Northern Territory. Geraldine is the wife of Wayne Stewart Tjupurrula, an established Aboriginal artist. Geraldine grew up on a cattle station with her family and she draws her inspiration from family stories that have been shared with her and her siblings.
Her grandmothers would take the children outside hours before it rained, they would teach the children how to smell the rain and point out the signs that indicate that a storm was coming. Geraldine speaks fondly of times when she would sit in the sand dunes with her family and together they would watch the rains roll in. The monsoon times of the year are the most important and the most welcomed in the red centre of Australia, revitalizing the plant life and attracting animal life.
