Biography:
George Tjungurrayi was born in the remote desert area west of Kiwirrkura in 1947 and moved to Papunya in the 1960s.
George began painting in 1976 during the early days of the Aboriginal Art Movement in Papunya. George Tjungurrayi is the brother of Willy Tjungurrayi, also a famous artist. George depicts dreamings associated with the “Tingari Cycle”. George Tjungurrayi’s paintings often depict specific sacred sites located in his ancestral country. George Tjungurrayi was included in the Australian Art Collector’s list of the 50 most collectible Australian artists.
